Dr. Kerstin Zander, Associate Professor an der Charles Darwin University, Australien, führt derzeit den zweiten Teil ihres 18-monatigen Alexander von Humboldt-Stipendiums durch, mit dem DIE als Haupt- und dem Potsdam-Institut für Klimafolgenforschung (PIK) als Zweitpartner. Aufgrund der Corona-Situation arbeitet sie von Australien aus. Um den Austausch mit Forscher*innen des DIE und des PIK zu fördern, organisierten DIE und PIK am 11. September 2020 gemeinsam ein Online-Seminar, in dem sie ihre laufende Forschung zum Thema „Heat impacts on human migration“ vorstellte.

Kerstin Zander shares findings of her research on “Heat impacts on human migration”
Dr Kerstin Zander, Associate Professor at the Charles Darwin University, Australia, is currently conducting the second part of her 18-months Alexander von Humboldt fellowship, with German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) as main, the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) as secondary partner. Due to the Corona situation, she is working from Australia. In order to foster exchange with researchers at DIE and PIK, on 11 September 2020 DIE and PIK jointly organized an online seminar in which she presented her ongoing research on “Heat impacts on human migration”.

DIE-Director Anna-Katharina Hornidge appointed to the steering committee of the Global Health Hub Germany
©Global Health Hub The Global Health Hub Germany – founded in 2019 by the German Federal Ministry of Health to fight tropical diseases, cancer and antibiotic resistance – is an independent network with over 600 members, in which global health players can exchange information and ideas and establish new projects and partnerships. In August, Anna-Katharina Hornidge was elected into the steering committee of the Global Health Hub Germany (Think Tank group of actors). The steering committee is responsible for the strategic planning, further development and orientation of the hub. Up to 16 representatives of the Steering Committee represent the groups of actors from science, business, civil society and youth as well as think tanks, foundations, the parliamentary area and international organizations.

DIE-Direktorin Anna-Katharina Hornidge in den Lenkungskreis des Global Health Hub Germany berufen
©Global Health Hub Der Global Health Hub Germany – 2019 vom Bundesministerium für Gesundheit zum Kampf gegen Tropenkrankheiten, Krebs und Antibiotika-Resistenzen gegründet – ist ein unabhängiges Netzwerk mit über 600 Mitgliedern, in dem sich Akteure der Globalen Gesundheit austauschen und neue Projekte und Partnerschaften auf die Beine stellen können. Im August 2020 ist Anna-Katharina Hornidge in den Lenkungskreis des Global Health Hub Germany (Akteursgruppe Think Tank) gewählt worden. Der Lenkungskreis ist für die strategische Planung, Weiterentwicklung und Ausrichtung des Hubs zuständig. Im Lenkungskreis vertreten bis zu 16 Repräsentant*innen paritätisch die Akteursgruppen Wissenschaft, Wirtschaft, Zivilgesellschaft und Jugend sowie Think Tanks, Stiftungen, den Parlamentarischen Raum und internationale Organisationen.

Key Notes by DIE Director Anna-Katharina Hornidge at the „2020 Virtual Forum on Earth System Governance“
©Earth System Governance The „2020 Virtual Forum on Earth System Governance“ took place from 15 to 18 September 2020. This three-day conference, hosted virtually by the University of Utrecht and the Earth System Governance network, aimed to stimulate academic debate and discussion in the field of Earth System Governance and at the same time to identify approaches that will take research into implementation. Several DIE researchers contributed to sessions in their respective research areas. One of these was the Semi-Plenary I: „Global Regimes of Knowing: Science Policy for Earth System Governance“ – hosted by DIE and Klimalog and moderated by Steffen Bauer. The event explored the serious differences between science systems globally, as well as the policy advisory platforms from the scientific community, which were addressed in a keynote address by Anna-Katharina Hornidge. Representatives from UN Environment, Jared Bosire, and the University of Brasilia, Cristina Yumi Aoki Inoue, reflected on these challenges with a special focus on how to address them from the different sectors.
