About 200 people from all over the world followed the second online event of the new Bonn Water Network on “Addressing water as a crosscutting element of the Sustainable Development Goals” on 16 December 2020.

In her moderation, Dr. Annabelle Houdret, German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE), speaker of the network, highlighted that Sustainable Development Goal 6 on clean water and sanitation is crucial for the implementation of many other SDGs such as food security, health, education, land or energy. In his keynote, Dr. Srinivasa Srigiri (DIE) introduced the topic and pointed out that across the 2030 Agenda, many goals depend on the availability of and access to water. He presented an analytical approach to identify and address the arising interlinkages and trade-offs from a governance perspective. (mehr …)

The Horizon2020 research and network project PRODIGEES, coordinated by the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) and implemented with partners from the Managing Global Governance (MGG) Network, kicked off a collaborative online event series with the Centre international de formation européenne (CIFE).

The first two virtual events on 10 December 2020 and 21 January 2021 with Dr Simone Lucatello, from Instituto Mora in Mexico City, focused on the intersection between digitalisation and climate change and thereby addressed one of the key research areas of PRODIGEES (Promoting Research on Digitalisation in Emerging Powers and Europe towards Sustainable Development). On the basis of an overview of the challenges of climate change and an introduction of the reports by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Dr Lucatello highlighted digitalisation’s role in carbon creation. At the same time, he illustrated the power of digitalisation for climate protection, for instance in relation to energy efficiency, agriculture practices, mobility and transportation, climate education or as a tool for climate scientists. Dr Lucatello is a social scientist with a research focus on climate change and sustainability.  His collaborations include projects with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), United Nations Information Centres (UNIC) und United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) as well as the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB).

The webinar series is planned to continue later this year.

All developments can be followed on the PRODIGEES website: www.prodigees.info.
