These are testing times for major global actors and, particularly, for the European Union (EU). Key elections and international turmoil may turn 2017 into a last wake-up call for Europe if it is not able to take full advantage of G7 and G20 and if a new road map for the EU is not designed.

Dabei geht es im Wesentlichen um das Voranbringen der Agenda 2030 für Nachhaltige Entwicklung; die Zusammenarbeit der G20 mit Afrika auf einem neuen Niveau; und die Überwindung der aktuellen Blockade zwischen „alten“ und „neuen“ Gebern. Vor allem die Development Working Group der G20 kann im Hinblick auf die Agenda 2030 den Austausch aktiv unterstützen. Die deutsche Präsidentschaft könnte dabei die Führung übernehmen.
