  • Herausforderungen für die deutsche Entwicklungszusammenarbeit

    Langfristige und kurzfristige EZ verbinden

    Die Verabschiedung der Agenda 2030 und des Pariser Klimaabkommens sowie die globale Flüchtlingskrise haben die deutsche Entwicklungszusammenarbeit vor neue Herausforderungen gestellt. Sie muss ihren Platz zwischen Global Governance und Nothilfe finden und noch stärker Teil einer umfassenden Agenda der Bundesregierung werden. Eine weitere Herausforderung ist der absehbare Rückgang der Zahl der ODA-fähigen Länder, der u.a. die Frage nach den Möglichkeiten einer projektbasierten Zusammenarbeit mit nicht ODA-fähigen Ländern aufwirft.

  • The T20 outlines a vision for an inclusive and cohesive G20 agenda

    What is the best way forward for the G20 to promote a sustainable and inclusive vision for the world? At the beginning of Germany’s G20 Presidency, the T20 addressed this challenge at its own launch event in Berlin over December 1-2. In a difficult global political and economic setting, discussions focused on how to make the G20 more relevant and responsive to the lives and needs of people.

  • The German G20 Presidency and International Cooperation in Uncertain Times

    A fiscal stimulus for a troubled economy.

    The German presidency of the Group of Twenty (G20) begins on December 1, 2016, in an even more difficult political context than the previous Chinese presidency. Due to the German federal elections scheduled for the second half of 2017, Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government moved forward the Hamburg G20 Summit to July 2017, intensifying the time-constraints on negotiators. Despite the circumstances, the forum should act with more urgency to achieve sustainable and inclusive global economic growth. In what could be a decisive year for the international economy, contributions from other members will be crucial.

  • Entwicklungszusammenarbeit: Effektiv, inklusiv und transformativ?

    Kein one-size-fits-all Ansatz

    Es bedarf einer strategischen Anpassung derzeitiger Partnerschaftsansätze für die Implementierung der Ziele für nachhaltige Entwicklung. Die Agenda 2030 sieht Partnerschaften als zentrales Instrument zu deren Umsetzung vor. Unterstützung der Akteure bei verschiedenen Prozessen der Zusammenarbeit ist ein wichtiger Ansatzpunkt. Es wird Zeit, dass wir nach inzwischen mehr als zwei Jahrzehnten Erfahrungen mit Partnerschaften in der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit die Stärken und Schwächen verschiedener Ansätze erkennen und diese strategisch bearbeiten.

    These are testing times for major global actors and, particularly, for the European Union (EU). Key elections and international turmoil may turn 2017 into a last wake-up call for Europe if it is not able to take full advantage of G7 and G20 and if a new road map for the EU is not designed.
