Megatrends Afrika enters a new project phase

The research project examines how global shifts reshape politics and cooperation with African countries.

What are the implications of the new world order and central megatrends such as urbanization, digitalization, and demographic change for society, politics, and the economy in African countries? How can and should Germany and Europe realign their cooperation with African partners in light of these structural changes?

These questions are the focus of the research and policy advisory work of “Megatrends Afrika. Since autumn 2022, the project has established itself as a key knowledge provider and point of contact for decision-makers in German African policy. This year, the project entered a new three-year phase.

“Megatrends Afrika” is a cooperative project of IDOS, Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik, and the Kiel Institute. The project is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space, the Federal Ministry of Defence, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. On behalf of IDOS the project is led by Dr Benedikt Erforth and Dr Christine Hackenesch. Dr Lena Gutheil, Dr Hangwei Li and Dr Phemelo Tamasiga are part of the project team at IDOS.
