From 4 to 5 December, Prof. Anna-Katharina Hornidge and PD Dr Julia Leininger were invited to join an informal dialogue hosted by the UK Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office on “Governance in a new development paradigm” – building on The Policy Practice Working paper by Wilfred Mwamba commissioned for the event. The dialogue brought together 20 OECD governments, development agencies and think tanks to discuss the future of development as cooperation and governance infrastructure beyond aid. Participants exchanged views on new emerging partnerships and priorities, with increasing leadership from Global South countries and Middle Powers across the so-called North-South-Divide seeking new forms of cooperation. The event showed how the massive gap emerging from starkly decreasing ODA must be transformed into a cooperation architecture upholding the principles of constructive cooperation whilst responding to geopolitical rupture and overcoming structural inequalities and dependencies.
