The event brought together leading actors from the European Sustainability Community, the event looked at what has worked well, what has not worked well, and what is next in advancing sustainable development worldwide.

With the theme “Post-2030 Agenda: 10 Years of SDG Implementation and Ideas for a Future Agenda”, the European Sustainable Development Network in cooperation with Nordregio and The Nordic Council of Ministers hosted its 2025 annual conference on 25 and 26 November.
Dr Axel Berger gave an input on the Beyond 2030 Agenda Framework as part of the session on “Visions for the Post-2030 Global Goals”, joined by Catherine Ganzleben, Head of Unit on Fair and Sustainable Development at the European Enviornment Agency, Saar Tamminen, Chief Specialist on Sustainability Evaluation in the Finnish Prime Minister’s Office and Youth Representatives ReGEneration 2030 from Finland and Sweden, Jannat Ara Rahman and Lennie Jansson.
In his contribution, Dr Axel Berger highlighted that a successful negotiation of a follow-up global framework on sustainable development depends, on the one hand, on the success of implementing the SDGs until 2030 and, on the other hand, on the geopolitical context. Especially in light of the low-trust, multipolar and crisis-heavy international environment, policy-makers may face a trade-off between pursuing a universal agenda and upholding ambitious goals as well as means of implementation.
