ETTG events on the past and future of international cooperation

This month, IDOS researchers were involved in organising two international events of the European Think Tanks Group, a network of which it is a founding member. In Pretoria, discussions focused on EU-Africa relations from a decolonial perspective, while in Istanbul, the engagement of Turkey, the EU and China with the Global South was compared.

The first event on 11 and 12 September was organised in Pretoria together with the Nelson Mandela University, and explored EU-Africa relations from a decolonial perspective. The second event on 15 and 16 September was organised in Istanbul in cooperation with the Istanbul Policy Center and compared the engagement of Turkey, the EU and China with the Global South.

During the first event valuable insights on the past and future of EU-Africa relations were shared, ahead of the planned summit in Angola in November this year. The second event touched on common challenges experienced by the three actors, both in terms of their domestic politics and their efforts to adapt to a fundamentally changing international cooperation landscape.
