It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our esteemed colleague, long-time research partner and valued visiting scholar, Dr Bernhard Weimer.

Bernhard was a distinguished political scientist (PhD, Free University of Berlin) and economist (MSc, LM University of Munich) with profound knowledge and experience in social and political development in Africa. He dedicated his life to researching, advising, and co-shaping African policy, including working on political economy, public finance, and decentralisation for the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES), and the Universidade Eduardo Mondlane (UEM). He had made Mozambique his home, where he supported and inspired our research with his deep knowledge of the country and its people. Those of us who had the privilege of working with him deeply valued his expertise, restless dedication, and generosity of spirit.
