The future orientation of development policy has become an urgent issue, requiring a reassessment of Germany’s and Europe’s international scope for action. Against this backdrop, IDOS researcher Prof. Stephan Klingebiel organised a specialist event in Berlin on 11 November.
The main authors of the blog Weltneuvermessung, Thomas Bonschab and Robert Kappel, were involved in organising the event. Approximately 25 participants from think tanks, political foundations, federal ministries, and international organisations took part in the roundtable discussion.
The event focused on two key themes: (i) the evolving perspectives and justifications of development policy within the context of a shifting global order—marked by development progress in many countries of the Global South and a new geopolitical dynamic—and (ii) the intersections of development policy with other policy areas. This open and critical discussion highlighted the importance of broad dialogue in reshaping development policy.
