On the occasion of the German G7 Presidency, DIE organised a digital event on the topic of global health care on 9 May 2022 together with the German Council for Sustainable Development (RNE), the Stiftung Erde Gesunde Mensche (GEGM) and the Deutsche Allianz Klimawandel und Gesundheit (KLUG). In the event moderated by Kai Kupferschmidt, Prof. Dr. Anna-Katharina Hornidge (DIE), former Minister Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul (RNE), Prof. Eckhart von Hirschhausen (GEGM) and Maike Voss (KLUG/CPHP) discussed with Dr. Bärbel Kofler (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, BMZ), Dirk Meyer (BMZ) and representatives of the Federal Ministry of Health and other experts on how changes in the field of global health affect international relations in the long term and what contribution the G7 countries can make to strengthening the global health system. The discussion ended with a summary of the main results and concrete recommendations for action. Among other things, the participants recommended a new approach to multilateral development financing, the creation of a Global Health Compact 2030 at G7 level, the strengthening of the global health architecture in general and the World Health Organization in particular, as well as a restructuring and better coordination of global health policy along the health risks that are increasing due to environmental and climate change.
