The first digital cohort of the African-German Leadership Academy met online to discuss concrete plans for future network cooperation.
The BMZ African-German Leadership Academy is an innovative training and dialogue programme that brings together 25 young professionals from Germany and African reform partner countries each year. The alumni of the pilot programme met on 21 March 2022 digitally to re-connect, further the Academy’s dialogue aspect and collectively advance the programme of the network.
The meeting was co-created and co-facilitated by the alumni. They used this opportunity to discuss project ideas with their fellows and identify partners for collaboration. Two groups were formed as a result of these discussions. The first group will work on climate change and food security, focusing on identifying a challenge in Africa and come up with implementable solutions developed through the support of the network. The second group will work on peace and security and hasidentified three contributing factors to consider in the development of a concrete project; historical problems, poverty and (poor) governance.
“This is a unique opportunity for young people from Africa and Germany to work and collaborate through the African-German Leadership Academy and the first step towards developing ideas that foster sustainable development.”
Soumaya Zaddem, alumna African Academy 2021
Additionally, the (digital) pioneers of the Academy 2021 provided valuable and detailed feedback on the structure and content during the early-stage planning of the Academy this year and were warmly invited to meet and exchange ideas on their projects with the participants of the programme in 2022.
The development of the African-German Leadership Academy network is a first step forward in fostering the spirit of cooperation and co-creation between Germany and its partners from the African continent.
