Participation in the “Development Policy Discussion Days”

Gabriela Iacobuta, who is a climate and sustainable development policy researcher at the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE), participated as a panellist in the “Development Policy Discussion Days” 2021 of the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin and the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung. The session, titled “Partners in climate? The role of African renewables in the European Green Deal”, addressed questions of opportunities and risks of the European Green Deal for African countries. In particular, the panel focused on how to enable a just green energy transition in Africa and Europe and on the implications of potential green hydrogen trade relations and development cooperation. Ms. Iacobuta debated these topics with two other panellists: Dr. Tobias Lechtenfeld, Senior Policy Officer at the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and Dr. Hamza Hamouchene, Programme Coordinator North Africa at the Transnational Institute.
