Rural-Urban Migration in West Africa: Contexts, Trends, and Recommendations

In mid-March, Dr. Eva Dick and Dr. Benjamin Schraven, both senior researchers at the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE), published a policy brief with the Wold Bank initiative „Global Knowledge Partnership on Migration and Development“ (KNOMAD). The brief focuses on rural-urban migration in West Africa. The authors emphasize that the drivers and effects of rural-urban migration processes – which support incomes and risk mitigation of many West African households – need to be more explicitly accounted for in migration and urbanisation policies. Moreover, these policies ought to be aligned in a better way.

The results of the paper will be presented in a KNOMAD webinar, which takes place on March 31 at 4 pm CET.
