The Bonn phase features various activities designed to deepen exchange on sustainability and global cooperation.

We are very happy to announce that, following the completion of the online module in April, the Shaping Futures Academy resumed with the arrival of the participants for the in-person phase in Bonn on 20 May 2026.
The participants were warmly welcomed to IDOS by the Shaping Futures team. The first days focused on getting to know one another and settling down at IDOS and in Bonn.
At IDOS, the participants were officially welcomed by Dr Axel Berger, who engaged the cohort in an interactive discussion on current global development cooperation challenges and the importance of international partnerships and exchange.

As part of the welcome programme, the participants visited the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in Bonn, where they were received by Ronald Meyer, Head of Division “Policy Issues of Cooperation with Africa, African Union” at BMZ. The cohort was also officially welcomed to the City of Bonn by the Department of International Affairs and Global Sustainability. During the session, participants learned more about Bonn’s experiences in localising the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and discussed the importance of governance, leadership and policy making for sustainable futures.
The 2026 cohort brings together a diverse and internationally experienced group of professionals whose work spans a wide range of sectors, regions and thematic areas related to sustainable development and transformation. During their stay in Bonn until 3 July 2026, their presence will create many opportunities for dialogue, exchange and mutual learning across the institute. You can find more information on their profiles here.
Please find here the schedule of the Shaping Futures Academy 2026.
We are looking forward to the weeks ahead, the shared learning experiences and the networking opportunities during the first in-person phase of this year’s Academy!
