The Bonn Alliance met at IDOS and welcomed Prof. Dr Marion Halfmann, President of the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences, among its members.
The exchange on 19 December 2025 between Prof. Anna-Katharina Hornidge, Prof. Conrad Schetter, Prof. Xiaomeng Shen, Prof. Matin Qaim, Prof. Katja Bender, and Prof. Marion Halfmann focused on current challenges for sustainability research, including shrinking funding, shifting priorities towards security challenges and geopolitical dynamics, promoting young talent, and a struggling UN system looking to reform itself with the UN80 process. Together, they reflected on the origins of the Bonn Alliance for Sustainability Research and looked ahead to future initiatives.
It was a pleasure to host this meeting at IDOS and we look forward to continuing to strengthen sustainability science from this hub in Bonn and North Rhine-Westphalia together!
