Why does declining social cohesion threaten democracy? And why is this a topic for the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU)? In its second report section, the WBGU examines social cohesion as the foundation for effective environmental and security policy. Without it, climate policy and security strategies risk losing public acceptance and effectiveness. The report section is part of the flagship report theme “Security—Sustainable and Integrated” (Security – sustainable and integrated | WBGU).

The webinar on the new report section takes place on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, from 3:00–4:30 p.m.

In the webinar, members of the WBGU Advisory Board will present key aspects of the report section, engage in discussion with external experts, and address questions from the audience. Prof. Anna-Katharina Hornidge, WBGU Co-Chair, will moderate the discussion.

The event will take place online in German and will be recorded.
