Webinar “Green Finance – Beyond Transparency“

To kick things off, experts explored how sustainable finance can move beyond transparency to become more effective.

On June 18, IDOS launched Green Economy on Point, a new series of webinars and policy briefs exploring today’s pressing sustainability transformation challenges and emerging opportunities, with a focus on low- and middle-income countries.

In the first webinar “Green Finance – Beyond Transparency“, IDOS researcher Dr Sören Hilbrich was joined by Shameela Soobramoney, CEO of the South African National Business Initiative (NBI), and Simon Dikau, Founder and Global Director of the LSE Centre for Economic Transition Expertise (CETEx).

The speakers discussed the current backlash against sustainable finance policies and explored how the sustainable finance agenda could be made more effective by moving beyond its current focus on transparency. In particular, the webinar highlighted the potential of credit guidance policies, transition plans, tax policy measures, and public development banks to redirect capital flows towards sustainable activities.
