IDOS contributed its scientific expertise and global networks to the third edition of the Hamburg Sustainability Conference (HSC) on 29 and 30 June.
IDOS contributed its scientific expertise and global networks to the third edition of the Hamburg Sustainability Conference (HSC), held on 29 and 30 June, by co-organising a high-level roundtable on the future of sustainability governance beyond 2030 and through the active participation of IDOS Director Prof. Anna-Katharina Hornidge, Deputy Director (interim) Dr Axel Berger, Head of Department Dr Sven Grimm, further IDOS colleagues, the IDOS MGG and wider IDOS national and international networks.
The conference brought together leading policy makers, researchers, civil society and business actors from around the world to discuss pathways for achieving breakthroughs on the Sustainable Development Goals and to forge the partnerships needed to drive sustainable development in a more fragmented and contested global environment. High-level participants, such as Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the President of Germany, Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Alexander de Croo, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Olaf Scholz, former Germany Chancellor, Reem Alabali Radovan, German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, and several high-ranking representatives of international organisations and leaders from the private sector were present at the conference. Minister Alabali Radovan stated that wars and conflicts are human-made, but so is peace. She pledged for investment in cooperation, as global challenges know no borders. Alexander de Croo and President Steinmeier emphasised the importance of the UN, being the best solution to global problems, which no country can solve on their own. However, they admitted the need of the UN becoming more flexible and effective to provide better results.
