Global Solutions Summit: Zooming-In on Critical Minerals and African Agency

Axel Berger contributed to the session on “Critical Minerals and African Agency: From Extraction to Shared Values”. In a discussion moderated by Dr Maria Kottari (IIED Europe), Axel Berger, Deprose Muchena, Open Society Foundation, and Fati N’Zi-Hassane (Oxfam), explored pathways towards critical minerals partnerships that leave behind extractive models and are an integrated part of global cooperation architectures.

Anna-Katharina Hornidge chaired a panel entitled ‘After the SDGs: A New Approach from Aid to Development’ with renowned speakers such as Prof. Amar Bhattacharya (Brookings), Prof. Xu Xiuli (Chinese Agricultural University), Izabella Teixeira (CEBRI), Dr Sebastien Treyer (IDDRI) and Julia von Dobeneck (Robert Bosch Foundation). The panel served the exchange on the current state of political debate and positioning regarding the 2030 Agenda and a potential future agenda in the different countries of origin of the speakers. As part of this, the mobilisation of finance and political support for a universal and future-oriented agenda for a cooperative multipolar world was discussed.
