On 16 April, the 8th German HLPF Conference took place in Berlin, gathering local communities, business, academia, civil society, and the federal government to prepare Germany’s contribution to the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), which will take place in New York in July.

In preparation for the conference, the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, with its secretariat hosted by IDOS, had co-organised four roundtables on the focus SDGs of this year’s HLPF: SDG 6 on Water, SDG 7 on Energy, SDG 9 on Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, SDG 11 on Cities and Communities, and SDG 17 on Partnerships.

The event discussions emphasised that hard and soft resilience go hand in hand, linking infrastructure and energy transition with participation, democracy, and the rule of law. Participants mentioned that economic resilience requires a smart industrial policy that supports sustainability without undermining international cooperation while promoting value creation in partner countries. The conference also highlighted cases where municipalities and counties demonstrate successful change through renewable energy, sustainable mobility solutions, and innovation parks, showing political and social openness to innovation.
