The joint conference “Systemic Impact through Transformative Training,” co-hosted by IDOS and Indonesia’s National Institute of Public Administration (LAN) in Jakarta from 19–23 April 2026 under the MGG network, brought together over 120 participants, including 25 international experts from across four continents. Continuing the collaboration of training institutions in the MGG network, it marked an important step in advancing global cooperation on public sector capacity development for implementing the 2030 Agenda.

A high-level opening, including Indonesia’s Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform, ensured strong political visibility and underscored the strategic importance of capacity development. Exchanges between international experts and Indonesian practitioners highlighted both shared challenges and context-specific approaches, reinforcing the role of civil service training institutions in translating global goals into national action.

The programme combined conceptual discussions with hands-on engagement. Interactive workshops showcased concrete experiences, including ENAP’s long-term 2030 Agenda implementation and innovative applications of AI in public service delivery. Further sessions focused on institutional learning as well as monitoring and evaluation systems, generating practical insights for more effective capacity development.

A particular highlight was the in-depth dialogue with key Indonesian institutions such as BAPPENAS, Indonesia’s Ministry of National Development Planning, and the Ministry of State Secretariat. These exchanges created a valuable interface between international expertise and national policymaking, fostering mutual understanding and identifying pathways for closer alignment between training systems and development priorities.

Building on this momentum, a smaller working session translated discussions into concrete next steps, with partners agreeing on a joint agenda for future collaboration within the MGG network.

The conference attracted significant media attention. Beyond its substantive achievements, the conference will be remembered for the exceptional hospitality of LAN and the Indonesian members of the MGG network. It not only enabled an inspiring and productive exchange but also laid the foundation for a strong and enduring institutional partnership between IDOS and LAN – opening the door to deepened cooperation in the years ahead.
