Beyond 2030 – a new momentum for the global sustainability agenda

Experts discussed financing strategies, systemic frameworks, and necessary course corrections for the sustainability agenda beyond 2030.

On 26 February, the Global Policy Forum Europe and the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) hosted the discussions on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda against the background of the emerging discussion on a new global sustainability agenda beyond 2030.

The discussion featured presentations by Sarah Ganter from Global Policy Forum Europe and Philipp Bothe from the World Inequality Lab in Paris. It raised two central questions: to what extent can adequate funding and implementation instruments be provided, and what systemic and geopolitical framework conditions are subject to necessary transformation processes?

This was followed by a panel discussion with additional contributions from Dr Axel Berger (IDOS) and Dr Katja Hujo (United Nations Research Institute for Social Development, UNRISD). The discussion focused on course corrections needed within the sustainability agenda and the means required implementing them.

The panellists shared a common vision of placing sustainability at the centre of efforts to overcome global crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic, geopolitical disruptions, and the weakening of multilateralism.
