PGP Research Team – First Insights from Rwanda

Research Team II Rwanda has officially kicked off the field phase of the project, and the first two weeks in Kigali have already been both productive and inspiring. A report.

Groupphoto: PGP Research Team II in Rwanda. After arriving in the country (with our luggage taking a slightly more adventurous route than we did), we quickly moved from internal coordination to engaging conversations with key partners. A central highlight was our exchange with colleagues from the University of Rwanda. Together, we aligned research objectives, sharpened our methodological approach, and deepened our understanding of the local context. These discussions laid an important foundation for the months ahead.

We also had the opportunity to connect with institutional stakeholders working at the forefront of sustainable development. At GIZ Rwanda, colleagues from the Social Economic Development Cluster and the Climate-Sensitive and Socially Just Housing (CSPH) project shared valuable insights into ongoing initiatives in the green construction sector. Conversations with the International Labour Organization further enriched our perspective on skills development and the policy frameworks shaping Rwanda’s green transition.

Beyond meetings and exchanges, we have advanced our survey sampling strategy and begun conducting our first expert interviews. With data collection now underway and strong partnerships in place, the project is moving from preparation to action.

We are excited about the collaborative spirit we have encountered so far and look forward to sharing more updates as our research journey in Rwanda continues.
