A high-level event honors Johannes Rau and discusses future prospects for structural transformation in North Rhine-Westphalia.

On 12 January 2026, the Johannes Rau Research Foundation, the North-Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, and the Johannes-Rau-Society hosted an event discussing the role of sciences as a driving force for structural change, reflecting on Johannes Rau’s work as Minister of Science, Minister-President and Federal President.
Prof. Anna-Katharina Hornidge, Margret Heyen and Dr Christian Böber represented IDOS at the high-level event, to which Minister-President Hendrik Wüst delivered the keynote. In their exchange after the event, Anna-Katharina Hornidge emphasised the importance of upholding North-Rhine-Westphalia as a research hub within transnational science systems, with a strong focus on science policy society interfaces.
