PD Dr. Stephan Klingebiel emphasised the need to redefine interfaces between development goals.

IDOS researcher Stephan Klingebiel was invited to participate in the expert meeting “International Development Cooperation: Taking Forward the Sevilla Commitment” on 4 and 5 December 2025 in New York. The meeting was organised by the United Nations / UN DESA (Department of Economic and Social Affairs) and also included an informal dialogue with UN Member States. During the meeting, various ongoing initiatives to reform international development cooperation were discussed.
Stephan Klingebiel emphasised, among other points, how the normative foundations of sustainable development and development cooperation have been increasingly called into question in recent years. He also highlighted the importance of rethinking the interfaces between development policy and other policy areas and objectives. For example, he raised the question of the specific development policy contribution in contexts such as access to critical raw materials or the pursuit of migration-related objectives.
