On 27 November 2025, Prof. Anna-Katharina Hornidge delivered the keynote for the Roundtable Event “Beyond ‚Development‘ Cooperation Policy for Times of Global (Dis-)Order”. The event aimed to bring together leading voices from politics, business, finance, academia and civil society to develop new ideas, partnerships and strategies towards perspectives for the Kenyan and East African economies.

Organised by the Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft and geo Horizon, the Roundtable focussed on themes included infrastructure and technology financing, consequences like unilateral dependencies and the conflict of limited fiscal options during economically challenging times. After an opening statement by the Kenyan Government , IDOS Director Prof. Anna-Katharina Hornidge opened up the thematic deliberations with her keynote on “Transregional Cooperation Africa-Europe-Asia in times of geopolitical Re-ordering”.
She here particularly reflected on the role of development policy as cooperation policy in times, where thematic and strategic alliances are strung more dynamically and beyond traditional groupings of countries. The keynote was followed by panel discussions on reimagining cross-continental cooperation, infrastructure and development finance, challenges of AI and digitisation cooperation, and China’s role in the region, to which IDOS researcher Dr Hangwei Li contributed as a speaker. As part of her travels to Kenya, Prof. Hornidge also met with representatives of the German Embassy and delivered a seminar on “Science Futures. Systems of Expertise for transformative Change” at the African Economic Research Consortium, an IDOS partner within the Think20.
