wpn.Lab on transformation financing – SMEs in focus

How can transformation financing be made effective, accessible and fair for small and medium-sized enterprises in Germany? This question was addressed by the latest wpn.Lab of the Science Platform Sustainability 2030 (wpn2030) in Berlin.

Under the title ‘Ensuring effective transformation financing – focus on SMEs’, the wpn.Lab took place on 3 November 2025 in cooperation with the Wuppertal Institute and SDSN Germany. The expert workshop brought together representatives from policy/administration, science, business and civil society in Germany to gather perspectives and develop joint responses.

The focus was on both conventional investments in climate protection and the implementation of innovative new solutions and business models. Working in small groups, participants identified existing challenges, formulated possible solutions and then developed specific requirements for the success of selected solutions.

Based on this, the wpn2030 team will now work with participants to draft a position paper summarising the findings of the workshop.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to all speakers and participants for their commitment and the exciting contributions and discussions.
