From August to November 2025, the Managing Global Governance (MGG) Academy once again took place at IDOS. Over the course of three intensive months, young professionals from Brazil, China, Germany, India, Indonesia, Mexico and South Africa shared knowledge, gained new competencies and built a strong sense of community that will connect them with one another, as well as with the broader MGG Network – for years to come.

The aim of this year’s MGG Academy was to empower participants in their roles as change agents. Key sustainability issues – including socio-ecological transformation, climate justice and digitalisation – were explored in depth, while leadership seminars offered space for reflection on their personal roles in driving change. During the “Network in Action” weeks, participants worked with MGG network partners to tackle concrete sustainability-related challenges.

The programme also included a study trip to Brussels and a visit to Berlin for the International Futures format organised in cooperation with the Federal Foreign Office.

The MGG Academy draws on a wide range of interactive and creative learning formats. Participant Araceli Martínez Holguín from Mexico put it succinctly: “Big challenges demand multidisciplinary work in a multicultural setting.”

A central ambition of the Academy is to foster trust, empathy and mutual understanding – essential elements for constructive dialogue, even on contentious issues. This spirit of cooperation forms the foundation for meaningful engagement, both within the Academy and in the broader context of global sustainability governance. As Dimakatso Mkwanazi from South Africa notes, the programme above all nurtures a sense of global solidarity and mutual learning.

The MGG Academy 2025 concluded on 21 November with a festive closing ceremony at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Applications for the next MGG Academy open in mid-January 2026
