Global Dilemmas, Skill Development, and Traditions

From tackling global challenges to upholding traditions, the recent activities of the PGP participants offered learning, collaboration, and plenty of fun. The cohort took part in the simulation game “Beyond Failure? – Global Citizens Assembly”.

Stepping into fictional citizen roles, the participants tackled global dilemmas—from fair access to commons and biodiversity protection to digital spaces and knowledge equity. They were introduced to the principles of ubuntu and sociocracy, and were challenged to apply them in their collaboration. They experimented with inclusive decision-making, engaged in intensive debates, and developed imaginative solution pitches. It was also a great pleasure to meet, connect, and collaborate with MGG participants and Shaping Futures alumni.

Through creative exercises and inputs from professional trainers, participants learned how to structure and identify key factors to successfully create impactful presentations. Additionally, they improved their skills to connect with their audience, moderate team meetings, and offer effective feedback, skills that are essential for a successful career in sustainability and development cooperation.

After this intensive skill-focused training, the cohort took time to strengthen their bond beyond the walls of IDOS and kept PGP tradition alive with its hut weekend in Boppard, also known as “the Nizza of the Rhine”. The fun and games team organized a lively program, including a scenic hike through Boppard’s UNESCO-listed landscape with views of the Bopparder Rheinschleife. In the evening, the pub-quiz pros challenged the group with a witty quiz on Boppard, politics, music, and geography.

Looking ahead, the cohort is well-prepared and energized to tackle the next steps in their respective research projects.
