The ten-day programme serves to build networks between decision-makers from diplomacy, science, politics, civil society, and business. As its 22nd edition, the INTERNATIONAL FUTURES (IF) programme took place from 15 to 24 October 2025 in Berlin.

With a focus on “Disruptive Digitalisation and Sustainability”, the International Futures programme brought together participants of the Managing Global Governance (MGG) Academy with diplomats as part of the Federal Foreign Office’s International Training for Diplomats (Diplomacy by Networking). In expert discussions, interactive workshops and simulation games, the group explored the opportunities and risks of artificial intelligence, the hazards of online disinformation, the climate and environmental impacts of digitalisation as well as the influence of social media, big data and digital platforms.

Further, the programme featured a series of high-level engagements. Participants met with Johann Saathoff, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, for an insightful discussion on the intersection of sustainable development and diplomacy, as well as the ongoing cooperation agendas between Germany and the represented countries. A meeting with Florian Hahn, Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office, provided perspectives on the key priorities shaping German foreign policy. As another highlight, the group was welcomed at the Embassy of India in Berlin for an exchange on the state of Indian-German digital cooperation.

The programme also included a cultural excursion in Berlin, including a political city tour and visits to the Humboldt Forum and the East Side Gallery.
