On September 22, the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts, the Rectors‘ Conference in North Rhine-Westphalia, and the Johannes Rau Research Foundation (JRF) organised the direct exchange between Minister Ina Brandes and the academic community. The event focussed on the theme „Turbulent Times – How Geopolitical Ruptures Challenge North Rhine-Westphalia’s Science System“.

Prof. Anna-Katharina Hornidge participated in the event as a representative of the JRF institutes. In her presentation and the subsequent panel discussion, she emphasised the necessity of preserving international cooperation, especially during times of upheaval and, in the face of strong autocratisation tendencies and geopolitical disruptions, to deliberately focus on non-state cooperation and keep spaces for discourse open. The event was an important opportunity for exchange and a strong signal for the importance of research from and for North Rhine-Westphalia, in cooperation with partners worldwide.
