Dr Zoryana Olekseyuk and Dr Axel Berger participated in the WTO Public Forum to present the key findings of their research on the impacts of the Investment Facilitation for Development (IFD) Agreement.

In a Centre Stage session organised by the co-chairs of the IFD Agreement, together with the International Trade Centre, the World Economic Forum as well as the G20 Trade and Investment Research Network, Dr Zoryana Olekseyuk spoke about the implementation of digital tools in the IFD Agreement and their implications for development, drawing on IDOS’ Investment Facilitation Index. Axel took part in a high-level dialogue on the IFD Agreement, convened just before the Public Forum, where he discussed the economic impacts of the Agreement. The economic simulations by IDOS of the IFD Agreement’s effects were highlighted by WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in her address to WTO delegates and the leadership of international organizations.
Prof. Clara Brandi also contributed to the Forum by participating in the expert roundtable “Fostering inclusive cooperation on the circular economy, trade, and sustainable development”organised by the Forum on Trade, Environment & the SDGs (TESS) and was invited to contribute to the international study group “Reforming Subsidy and Industrial Policy Rules for a Sustainable Future.” Dr Tilman Altenburg was in invited to provide an input to the event on Industrial Policies and the Global Trade Framework organised by the International Institute for Sustainable Development and targeted at trade negotiators from various countries.
At this year’s WTO Public Forum, the new “Trade Policy Hub” brought together academics and policymakers to discuss key challenges in global trade. Dr Frederik Stender and Dr Tim Vogel presented findings that formal, cooperative, and rules-based bilateral trade instruments with partner countries in the Global South remain crucial for strengthening trade in critical raw materials and ensuring secure access in times of economic uncertainty.
