How can we contribute to a sustainable future as individuals, in the context of our work, in our communities, societies and in inter- and transnational cooperation? In view of the ongoing wars, heatwaves and floods worldwide, and the aggravating climate crisis, these questions are more burning than ever. The MGG Academy 2025 started on 8 September and opens rooms to discuss these questions.
The Managing Global Governance (MGG) Academy at IDOS is financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine Westfalia. This year, the MGG Academy brings together 21 highly qualified early career professionals from Brazil, China, Germany, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Poland and South Africa.
In their home countries, they work in ministries, research institutes, think tanks, civil society organisations or the private sector. The participants engage in dialogues on the big questions around sustainability: How can societal transformations to sustainability be fostered? Which role does global governance play? How can we make sure that the future respects our planetary boundaries and is socially just at the same time? Is digitalisation an opportunity or a threat to sustainability?
The MGG Academy aims to empower the participants in their role as change makers. Next to knowledge exchange in academic modules, participants are encouraged to learn about their own role as agents of change in leadership modules. In change maker projects, participants will jointly put their learnings into practice. Furthermore, the International Futures programme, co-organised with the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, takes the participants to Berlin, and a study trip to Brussels rounds off the MGG Academy.
