On June 18, the UN project held a full-day workshop at IDOS to discuss current challenges and the future of UN development work. The background to this is the “UN80” reform initiative launched by UN Secretary-General Guterres.

The reform initiative aims to make the UN more efficient in the face of drastic financial constraints, but also offers an opportunity to address unresolved problems related to the UN’s institutional structures and to align the functions and approaches of the UN development system with new demands. Workshop discussions focused on how development processes actually work and what this should mean for an effective UN development system. The workshop was part of a collaboration between IDOS and external experts on a reform paper that is supposed to contribute to UN80 reform debates.
