This year’s meeting in Pretoria looked at core principles of South Africa’s G20 Presidency and brought together alumni, research institutions and think tanks.

‘Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability’ form the principles of South Africa’s current Presidency of the G20. South Africa concludes a series of ‘Southern’ G20 Presidencies by Indonesia (2022), India (2023), and Brazil (2024).
In our MGG South Africa network meeting, experts from the network discussed how South Africa is leveraging the G20 Presidency to advance this year’s principles both domestically and globally and exchange on specific initiatives from their respective fields. The discussion was informed by a keynote by Dr Philani Mthembu, Executive Director of the Institute for Global Dialogue (IGD).
Together with the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) and the Institute for Pan-African Thought and Conversation (IPATC), IGD is Co-Leading the South African Think20 (T20) process, which brings together leading research organisations and think tanks form the G20 countries and beyond to provide evidence-based policy advice to G20 processes.
