The Shaping Futures: African-European Network on Development and Sustainability is set to launch its 2025 edition—continuing its mission to foster dialogue, learning, and collaboration among young professionals from Africa and Europe.
This year’s programme will run from 5 May to 21 November 2025, and once again bring together a group of 25 professionals from Ethiopia, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Togo, Zambia, Germany, and European (EU, plus EEA and UK) countries, each bringing valuable perspectives and expertise from their respective contexts (e.g., civil society, academia and think tanks, public administration, business, and media).
The Shaping Futures Academy continues in a modular format blending three online and two in-person phases in Germany and Ghana. The first online phase is set to begin on 5 May, and will mark the official start of the Academy’s activities. In this initial two-week module, participants will be introduced to the 2025 Academy theme and begin building a shared foundation for discussion and collaboration—while still based in their home countries.
The online phase will feature a combination of synchronous and asynchronous sessions, expert inputs on global and continental development frameworks such as Agenda 2030 and Africa’s Agenda 2063, and opportunities for peer exchange and teamwork. Participants will also be introduced to key methodologies and digital tools that will guide their work throughout the Academy.
An official virtual opening will bring together the participants for the first time and representatives from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the IDOS Shaping Futures Team, our programme partners including CDD Ghana and Next Economy Lab (NELA), as well as facilitators and members of the Shaping Futures alumni network.
As the start of the first online phase approaches, preparations are well underway—and the stage is set for what promises to be an inspiring and transformative 2025 Academy journey.
