On 23 and 24 March 2025, the China Development Forum brought policymakers together with business and think tank leaders under the theme of “Unleashing Development Momentum for Stable Growth of the Global Economy”.
The forum featured symposia on topics such as advancing scientific and technological innovation, inclusive development of AI, challenges and opportunities of demographic change, green and low carbon development, and cooperation in global industrial and supply chains, as well as several closed-door sessions.
Prof. Anna-Katharina Hornidge represented IDOS at the forum. One of her main impressions from the forum was how the need for reliable, predictable and collaborative supply chains served as a uniting force for all stakeholders present, also as a counter to tariffs and protectionism advanced by the US. The forum served as a clear indication of a shifting world order, with the disrupted relation between the EU and the US putting a different context to how many stakeholders present view relations to China.
As part of her travels to China, Anna-Katharina Hornidge visited the China Agricultural University, a long-standing partner institution of IDOS. She delivered a lecture on “International Cooperation in Times of Global (Dis-)Order” and engaged in fruitful dialogue with University President Sun, fellow professors and students.
