On Friday, 22 November, 12 leading European research organisations gathered in the European Parliament together with their research partners to launch the new European Research Alliance for Sustainable Development (ERASuD).
The founding organisations of the alliance, of which IDOS is one, share the conviction that the EU should prioritise research cooperation with the global south to promote evidence-based policy-making and support sustainable development. The launch meeting allowed for interactions between alliance members, their research partners from different continents, representatives of the European Commission and relevant international organisations, as well as other interested stakeholders. In introducing the network on behalf of ERASuD Members, Prof. Anna-Katharina Hornidge emphasised the importance of research and equitable science cooperation to find solutions for global challenges and as a key end in itself. She warned against increasing tendencies of polarisation and disinformation and the risk of (geopolitical) instrumentalisation of research. The event was concluded with closing remarks by Member of the European Parliament, Mr. Udo Bullmann. More information can soon be found on the IDOS website.
