At the end of August IDOS welcomed Ms Elaine Souza, Chief of Staff of the Presidency from the Brazilian Court of Audit and Carlos Lustosa, Director of the Audit Department for Agriculture, Environment, and Economic Development in the Brazilian Court of Audit.
They were presenting the ClimateScanner Initiative and the newly established INTOSAI Centre for Advanced Studies CAST to Prof. Anna-Katharina Hornidge and Rita Walraf, Senior Policy Advisor and Focal Point for Emerging Economies in the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in order to elaborate and discuss future collaboration opportunities.
The ClimateScanner Initiative aims to assess national governments‘ actions to tackle the climate crisis. It consists of three underlying pillars: climate finance, governance and public policies. The initiative now involves 142 countries. This year the ClimateScanner initiative has successfully conducted six international workshops across various regions training more than 240 auditors, including Mexico, South Africa, India and the EU (Prague) to use the developed global taxonomy. The initiative has garnered support from organisations such as UNDP, World Band, IDB and UNDESA.
Carlos Lustosa is a Managing Global Governance (MGG) Academy alumni and an active MGG Network member. In the MGG Academy 2022, Lustosa experienced how important it is to have different strategies, approaches and tools to involve diverse stakeholders and audiences in global initiatives. He realised that diversity is key to solve global challenges.
As a consequence of his participation in the Academy, he insisted to enlarge the stakeholder group in the Executive Group of the ClimateScanner Initiative, especially with more countries from the Global South. The enlargement of the stakeholder group is an example how the MGG Network creates impact at a systemic-institutional level.
