IDOS and the Center for Global Development (CGD) brought together stakeholders from various sectors to discuss the way forward on the new UN climate finance goal (NCQG).
The NCQG is set to be agreed at this year’s COP29 in Baku, and is expected to have profound implications for the level and transformational potential of finance to tackle climate change. Hosted by IDOS and CGD, senior negotiators, policy-makers, civil-society representatives and experts took part in the event on 4 June, in the margins of the UNFCCC Bonn Climate Change Conference.
Based on recent analyses from the IDOS and the CGD, the event focussed on the negotiating positions of different parties and on how to bring them closer together.
Kicked-off by a keynote speech by Heike Henn (BMZ), panellists, including Julius Mbatia (African Group of Negotiators), Carola Mejía (Latindad), Jonathan Beynon (CGD) and Dr Svea Koch (IDOS) discussed how to improve measurement and accountability; how to tackle the issue of additionality of climate finance; how to set the level of ambition; and which countries should contribute to the NCQG.
The event has been livestreamed and can be re-watched here.
