IDOS is associate of the Hamburg Sustainability Conference

At the SDG Summit in September 2023, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced a new conference with the objective to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: The Hamburg Sustainability Conference (HSC).

The inaugural Hamburg Sustainability Conference will be held on 07 to 08 October 2024. Organised as an initiative of the United Nations (UNDP), the German Federal Government (BMZ), the Umweltstiftung Michael Otto, and the City of Hamburg, the conference serves as a global development policy platform that brings together leading minds from politics, business, science, civil society, and multilateral organisations. The aim is to design joint solutions and push for breakthroughs that accelerate development towards the SDGs. The conference seeks to establish a trustful dialogue between the global south and the global north and to activate the potential of the private sector for SDG commitment, investment, and action.

As the scientific partner, IDOS forms part of the HSC initiative. IDOS will, jointly with its international networks, organise roundtables and prepare policy briefs on key issues of global sustainability such as reform of the international financial architecture, green economy and future pathways of sustainability transformations. IDOS also will invite to a scientific symposium to bring the latest research on global sustainability issues into dialogue with key actors from policy, business and civil society present at the HSC.

While access to the HSC is granted by invitation only, you can sign up here with the promotion code HSC24-IDOS to express your interest and we will get in touch with you.

    Dear Prof. Anna-Katharina Hornidge,

Thank you for informing me about the monthly newsletter from IDOS. It was a great opportunity to gain insights into IDOS engagements and research on international cooperation for sustainable development. My name is Dereje Anduanbessa, and I am from the Global South, specifically Ethiopia. I earned my master’s degree in Education from Addis Ababa University in 2017. Currently, I serve as the Education Focal Person for the Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative (DAFI) Ethiopia Programme of the UNHCR outreach programme in Ethiopia, implemented by the Association of Ethiopians Educated in Germany. My responsibilities include planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the program, providing psychosocial support and counseling for refugee students, as well as conducting research and advocacy on sustainable development, education, migration, and refugee topics. I have published my latest blog on international publications, which was presented at the University of Oxford, UKFIET Conference 2023; https://www.ukfiet.org/2023/tertiary-refugee-education-in-ethiopia-integration-and-human-capital-in-the-igad-region/. I am interested in networking with IDOS and would like to attend the Hamburg Sustainability Conference 2024. I would like to know if I am eligible to be considered for the conference either as an attendee or presenter. Thank you for your kind understanding and consideration in advance.

    Sincerely yours,

    Dereje Anduanbessa
