On 04 December, the 10th annual conference of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Germany will take place at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research under the title „All Levers on Implementation: The SDGs as a Global Compass in Times of Crisis”.
Together with decision-makers from the executive and legislative branches as well as experts from member and partner organisations, approaches for achieving the SDGs will be discussed and further developed. At international level, the focus will be on the tension between accelerating the SDG implementation and thinking about beyond 2030, and at national level the target will be on the update of the German Sustainable Development Strategy by the end of 2024.
The event is divided into three blocks. The first part will concentrate on the barriers and opportunities for implementing the SDGs at international level against the background of current geopolitical distortions and the reorganisation of the world.
In the second part, parallel working groups will work out how the levers of sustainability policy proposed by SDSN Germany – Governance; Social Mobilisation and Participation; Science, Research and Digitalisation; Finance; and International Responsibility and Cooperation – can be used effectively to promote a change of course in the SDG implementation.
The third part will open with a keynote speech by Prof. Frank Biermann, who will address the potential failure of the SDGs and outline proposals for reform. Afterwards, other perspectives from business, social associations, design industry and politics will share their views in regards to the revision of the German Sustainability Strategy. New impulses for the implementation of the SDGs will also be collected.
If you are interested in participating in the annual conference (in person), please contact the SDSN Germany office: office@sdsngermany.de. The conference will not be streamed.
