Dr. Stephan Klingebiel (IDOS) came together with Prof. Li Xiaoyun (Chair of the Agricultural University China, CAU and Chairman of the Network of Southern Think Tanks, NeST) and Prof. Xu Jin (CAU) in Berlin to exchange on trends in Chinese development initiatives (e.g. the Global Development Initiative, GDI) with representatives of German development and foreign policy institutions (BMZ, GIZ, think tanks, political foundations). Against the background of Germany’s China strategy, which is currently being prepared, the controversial Chinese involvement in developing regions plays a major role. The severely limited travel opportunities due to the Chinese zero-covid policy had made a direct exchange with Chinese researchers over the last 3 years very difficult.
