Green hydrogen: hype, hopes, and hurdles.

On 20 and 21 September, IDOS hosted the project team meeting of HyPat, a BMBF-funded collaborative project in which eight institutions are jointly conducting research on the green hydrogen economy. The event included a talk show on 21 September  with Dolf Gielen, Director of the IRENA Technology and Innovation Centre, and Martin Wietschel, Head of the Competence Center Energy Technologies and Energy Systems at Fraunhofer-ISI and coordinator of the HyPat project. Central topics of discussion were the decarbonization potential of green hydrogen for industry and transport, the opportunities for producing countries in the Global South, and – given the big technological and infrastructural challenges – the feasibility of the current political roadmap.
