Workshop on Science Narratives in Policy Advice

In cooperation with Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg, Volkswagen Foundation, University of Oldenburg and University of Bremen, the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) hosted a workshop as part of the Fiction Meets Science (FMS) project. The virtual workshop of the FMS community focused on the topic „Science Narratives in Policy Advice“ and was organised by Prof. Dr. Anna-Katharina Hornidge (DIE) as well as Beatrice Dippel (DIE) and Prof. Dr. Anton Kirchhofer (University of Oldenburg). Among the speakers were Prof. Dr. Uwe Schimank (University of Bremen), Prof. Dr. Anton Kirchhofer (University of Oldenburg), and Prof. Dr. Anna-Katharina Hornidge and Beatrice Dippel (DIE). The aim was to examine the role, constitution and use of scientific narratives in policy advice with a special focus on policy-oriented papers from the field of development research and for the external policy fields of the German government. The workshop thus represents a first knowledge-sociological, narratological, culture-sociological and postcolonial engagement at DIE with scientific narrative production in and for the shaping of policies for international cooperation.
