Imme Scholz speaks to the Citizens‘ Council deliberating on Germany’s role in the world

Logo: Bürgerrat Rolle Deutschlands in der WeltThe second German Citizens‘ Council was established at the beginning of 2021: between January and March 2021, 160 people will discuss the important questions of our time and formulate recommendations for action for German foreign policy (for more information https://deutschlands-rolle.buergerrat.de/buergerrat/). The participants were selected by draw and represent the diverse perspectives of German citizens within the Council. They address significant topics of foreign policy in their ten virtual sessions, such as securing international cohesion or EU migration policy. The Council invites experts to advise them in their reflections. On 19 March 2021, the recommendations of the Citizens‘ Council will be submitted to the German Bundestag, which will forward them to the committees for deliberation.

On 20 January 2021, Imme Scholz was invited to talk to the Citizens‘ Council on the issue of „Sustainable Development“. She explained that the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are very helpful for shaping Germany’s external relations towards tackling the main challenges of the future – reducing poverty and inequality, combatting climate change and biodiversity loss, strengthening democracy.

The presentations of all experts will be published in a transparent process on the YouTube page of Mehr Demokratie e.V.
