To celebrate its global partnerships, especially with Ghana and Brazil, the Vice-Rectorate for International Affairs at the University of Bonn hosted the 2023 International Days and a Global Fair. IDOS, as a long-standing partner of the university, presented respective projects at the event.

On 20 October 2023, the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) joined this event alongside several institutes and partners of the University of Bonn, including the Center for Development Research (ZEF), as well as representatives from key organisations such as the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), among others. The Global Fair during this year’s International Days at the university aimed at learning about the University of Bonn’s existing collaborations in Ghana, Brazil and other countries of the Global South.
The primary objective of the event was to showcase international cooperation, particularly with partners from Ghana and Brazil, and to discuss current challenges and future opportunities in the field. It provided a platform for networking, exchange of knowledge and exploration of international partnerships. IDOS was represented by Ditebogo Modiegi Morare, Malika Yunussova, Hana Abebe, Dr Emmanuel Theodore Asimeng and Benjamin Stewart. A delegation from the University of Ghana and the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS) in Brazil, the university’s honoured guests, enriched the event.
IDOS took the opportunity to introduce the Shaping Futures and Managing Global Governance (MGG) Academies. The call for applications for the 2024 intake of Shaping Futures Academy was of immediate interest to the attendees. Delegates were invited to circulate the call within their networks. Shaping Futures Academy is a dialogue and training programme aimed at empowering sustainability champions and contributing to the common good. The programme’s focus includes transnational cooperation and sustainable development, and it targets early to mid-career professionals from select African and European countries. Both Ghana and Brazil are partner countries for IDOS‘ respective academies. The academies are financially supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
In addition, IDOS‘ multi-partner INTERFACES project was also exhibited. INTERFACES is an accompanying project that supports four regional projects in driving change for sustainable land use management in sub-Saharan Africa. Another cooperation of IDOS with Brazil is part of PRODIGEES, a transnational knowledge cooperation network, aimed at creating a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the impact of digitalisation across the social, economic and environmental dimension of sustainable development and its governance. The project is funded by the EU’s Horizon2020 programme.
The International Days Global Fair was a good opportunity for IDOS staff to connect with esteemed partners in person.
