Dr. Sabrina Schulz appointed as the new Executive Director

On 19 April 2021, the Leadership Council of SDSN Germany appointed Dr. Sabrina Schulz as the new Executive Director of SDSN Germany. Dr. Schulz is an expert in the fields of climate and energy, sustainable finance & economy and biodiversity. She studied political science and administrative sciences in Konstanz, Louvain-la-Neuve and Potsdam; she received her Master’s and PhD in International Politics from the University of Wales in Aberystwyth. After working in London, Brussels, Washington D.C. and Ottawa, she worked at the international think tank E3G and in management positions at KfW Bankengruppe over the past ten years. As of May 2021 she will succeed Adolf Kloke-Lesch, who will be continuing as Co-Chair contacts of SDSN Europe.
Expert discussion on “New Levers for Sustainability: Economic and Financial Policy in Transformation”
The RWI – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research and SDSN Germany invited representatives from science, politics, political consultancy and business to discuss the role of economic and financial policy for a sustainable transformation on 15 April 2021. The event was hosted by Dr. Nils aus dem Moore, Head of the Berlin Office and the Sustainability and Governance Research Group at RWI. He opened the event with an overview of the concept of “turning and leveraging” and related key questions. Prof. Dr. Matthias Kalkuhl, head of the economic growth working group at MCC Berlin and professor for climate change, development and economic growth at the University of Potsdam, then explained why a paradigm shift in environmental and tax policy is necessary and what opportunities a sustainable tax system and a significantly expanded use of steering taxes offers. The departmental coordinators for sustainability Dr. Philipp Steinberg (BMWi, Head of the Economic Policy Department) and Dr. Steffen Meyer (BMF, head of the sub-department fundamental questions of individual economic areas / welfare state) then presented the perspectives and activities of their departments. Adolf Kloke-Lesch (Executive Director of SDSN Germany) moderated the following discussion with the participants.
