On 27 August 2024, Dr Sven Grimm and Dr Wulf Reiners welcomed a twelve-member delegation of South African representatives from government and academia to IDOS.

The participating institutions included the ‘Policy and Research Services Unit’ of the Presidency of the Republic of South Africa, the University of Stellenbosch and the University of Pretoria, civil society organisations and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The meeting focussed on the forms, governance and key topics of policy advice in South Africa and Germany. The background to the visit were discussions on the fringes of several events organised by the Managing Global Governance (MGG) network and the PRODIGEES project in Pretoria, Stellenbosch and Cape Town in April and May 2024. In addition to discussing the effective use of scientific findings for political decision-making, the meeting also served as an opportunity to exchange views on the Sustainable Development Goals Initiative (SDGI) of GIZ (Pretoria Office) and future cooperation opportunities.
